What Does It Mean to Be Well-Educated?
- This reading interests me the most because Kohn explains how his ex-wife went to school for 29 years, became a physician, but she still stumbles on her answer when someone asks her a multiplication problem. He explains how if this is the definition of someone being well-educated then what does it mean for someone who actually knows their times tables or the little things they have learned in school. In this article, it made me realize that being well-educated could mean many different things. Just because someone has high test scores or good job skills does not mean that one person is more educated than the other. It made me feel like people can be well-educated in their own ways, whether its being street smart or being book smart.
Howard Gardner
- I feel as though Gardner has a very bright way of looking at things. He believes that an IQ test is not the right tool to determine someones intelligence just because it focus's on one topic of intelligence. Being that many many are intelligent in different ways, he created the "g" test which has six different topics so that people who take it can score well on what topic they know best. I enjoyed watching this video because I feel the same was about IQ tests. I believe that just because a person score low on this test does not mean they are not intelligent or not as smart as other people. There are many people in this world who may be bad at taking tests, however when it comes to applying what they have learned hands-on they are great at it.
